Aims of the course:

This full day conference will explore how schools can use their global learning and school linking activities to develop and encourage pupil voice and active participation. The event will be a mixture of plenaries and workshop sessions with participation from local schools who are using their global learning activities to engage pupils more actively in the curriculum / their learning and enable active global citizenship skills development. . Aims: To explore how global learning can enable pupil voice, improve critical thinking, leadership and communication skills To explore how active global citizenship can support pupils to gain a range of participatory skills, as well as develop knowledge and values

Expected outcomes of the course:

As a result of the conference participants will: Be aware of some principles and models of active pupil participation Be able to identify opportunities for pupil participation through the curriculum and other areas of school life Be aware of the range of opportunities there are for schools (funded and otherwise) to develop global links and partnerships Have the opportunity to hear from schools who are involved in global partnerships / global learning activities that are developing pupil voice Be aware of how they can gain accreditation for this work through the International School Award / Rights Respecting Schools Award

Embedding global learning in your teaching:

Schools will: Have a greater understanding of how global learning can support pupil voice / participation and active global citizenship skills Have a greater understanding of how to incorporate global learning into a wide range of subjects and to promote pupil voice and participation Have a greater understanding of how the embedding of global learning approaches can enhance teaching and learning Have a greater understanding of how to use their global learning and international projects to motivate and inspire pupils across a range of subject areas Have increased knowledge of where to get support / resources / gain accreditation to support their teaching / personal and professional development
